About Hyaluronic Acid

As individuals age naturally, the skin changes and becomes thinner, less elastic and less supple. The skin does not appear smooth, plump and vibrant as it once did. The full and supple skin we associate with youth is, in part, this way due to hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar-like substance found in the skin. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid decreases, which causes the skin to lose volume and leads to skin wrinkles and lines. Restylane works by replacing lost hyaluronic acid, helping to fill in wrinkles and plump lips.

All of the Restylane products are clear gel injectables that are formulated of hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid complex is made to act like the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid found in the body. When injected, it helps to visibly reduce moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. The Restylane family of products includes:

Restylane: This clear gel immediately adds volume to smooth away wrinkles of the face, correcting for moderate to severe facial lines. Additionally, it is used to fill in thin or thinning lips.

Restylane-L®: Like Restylane, this product is used to add volume to the skin in order to correct for moderate to severe facial lines and enhance lips. This product combines lidocaine, as a pain reliever, in order to improve comfort during and after injection.

Restylane® Silk: This product is designed to target the lips and the lines that form around the mouth. It is comprised of a unique particle gel formula that allows for precise injection and natural results. The consistency of this gel is silky smooth to deliver beautifully smooth lip contours.

Restylane Treatment Areas

The Restylane family of products are intended for use in the following areas of the face:

1. Laugh lines- These are the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth. These are also known as nasolabial lines.
2. Marionette lines- These lines run from the corners of the mouth downward to the jaw.
3. Corners of the mouth- The area next to the crease of the mouth can develop lines with age.

Moderate to Severe Facial Wrinkles

Restylane treatment in moderate to severe facial wrinkles is shown to last up to six months. However, with the Restylane Regimen, results can last much longer. Restylane has been proven to last up to 18 months from initial treatment of moderate to severe lines of nasolabial region, when patients follow the Restylane Regimen treatment plan.

The treatment to achieve full correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles takes three steps:

Step 1. Initial Restylane treatment to immediately lift wrinkles and creases by restoring lost volume. The initial treatment revitalizes the face and restores smooth and youthful contours.

Step 2. Follow up treatment after 4.5 or 9 months from the initial treatment. This follow up treatment can extend the results of the wrinkle correction for up to 18 months from the initial treatment in the nasolabial folds.

Step 3. Continued follow up for maintenance. The experienced healthcare professional can determine the appropriate schedule for optimal results and continued success in banishing unwanted facial wrinkles.

Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancement is indicated for individuals who feel that their lips are not proportionate to the rest of the face. Additionally, some individuals have naturally thin lips or have lost volume due to aging. With Restylane injections, beautiful and natural-looking full lips are obtained.

What to Expect with Restylane Injections

Restylane injections deliver immediate results. The clinician determines the appropriate volume to be injected into the treatment areas.
